Holland & Barrett becomes PAGB member

Holland & Barrett today became a member of the Proprietary Association of Great Britain (PAGB), the UK trade association that represents manufacturers of branded over-the-counter medicines, medical devices and food supplements.

John Miller, group technical and sourcing director – international at Holland & Barrett, which started stocking general sales list OTC medicines in 20 of its branches in London in November last year, said joining the PAGB would help the health food retailer “keep ahead of the evolving regulatory landscape”.

It started stocking GSL OTC painkillers, cough and cold, gastrointestinal, women’s health, skin and hayfever products.

“At Holland & Barrett we have a long-standing history in the wellness space, backed by our own research, data and insights, and we’re continually striving to ensure that our consumer healthcare offer represents best practice,” Miller said.

Announcing the addition of Holland & Barrett to its membership, the PAGB said it “supports retailers selling these products to stay up to speed on all regulatory matters and input into policy that affects the whole industry” as well as “actively promote self-care to empower individuals to take responsibility for their health and well-being.”

PAGB CEO Michelle Riddalls said: “We’re thrilled that Holland & Barrett have joined PAGB membership. Their brand is renowned with UK consumers for health, wellness and self-care, and we look forward to working with them to amplify the impact of their business and their voice in the consumer healthcare sector.

“We’re pleased also to be able to provide our expert advice and guidance to support Holland & Barrett with self-regulation, in addition to advocating on behalf of the industry through our work influencing government and policy and promoting self-care.”
